Transport Canada

Challenge

Transport Canada, in its pursuit to leverage drone technology for better disaster response, faced a limitation: conventional methods required sending a pilot on-site to manage the drone, a challenge especially in high-risk or inaccessible areas.

Solution

We showcased the capability of operating drones from a remote Command and Control Center in Montréal, a whopping 1230 km away, using an LTE network. This meant drones could be piloted from a safe distance, transmitting live data directly to decision-makers.

Result

At the Port of Halifax, remote-controlled drones were able to help Transport Canada officers effectively perform complex tasks such as inspecting mudguards. This success demonstrates that drones really have potential as a disaster support technology.

Qualia now benefit from a system that not only simplifies multi-vehicle routing but also offers an unprecedented 4D airspace perspective. The precision and real-time tracking capability have elevated their RPAS functions, making them more secure and efficient than ever.

We are glad that ARA Robotics, through this project, enabled the capacity to leverage the Canadian cellular network to support remote drone deployment. ARA did a great job developing and testing the technology as well as successfully completing all set operational used cases. We are pleased with the results of this project and the quality and punctuality of the work performed.
